Two instrument families meet on a spinal surgery table, and they are not interchangeable. The MEDLANE catalogue designates them differently: “Lamina Punch Rongeur” and “Rongeur Kerrison” on one side, “Rongeur Disque” on the other.
The difference shows first in the silhouette: a pistol grip with a footplate slid beneath the bite, or a ring handle extended by a cup jaw. This guide separates the two architectures, then reads what the designation writes: length, width, angle, high or low marking, dismountable or fenestrated option.
No clinical usage guidance here: only what an eye can verify on the instrument and on its reference.
Two architectures, two designations
Same orientation, same scale, two MEDLANE product photographs. On the left the Lamina Punch architecture, on the right the disc rongeur architecture.

Every characteristic quoted here is the one carried by the catalogue designation of the reference shown. No designation is rewritten: the MEDLANE nomenclature is reproduced as it stands.
The Lamina Punch family
Four references from the MEDLANE Lamina Punch series: the pistol grip and the footplate are shared, only the dimensions and the angle change.

Identical length and angle across the four references: only the width written into the designation changes, from 1 to 5 mm.

Same length, same bite width: the comparison isolates the angle exactly as written in the designation.

Identical length, width and angle: this is the only comparison that truly isolates the high or low marking of the catalogue designation.
The other architecture
Four disc rongeur families from the MEDLANE catalogue, all in the straight version: ring handle, shaft, and a cup jaw whose dimensions are written into the designation.
